National women’s volleyball team prepares for Asian Games

HÀ NỘI — The Volleyball Federation of Việt Nam (VFV) has been intensely preparing for the Asian Games  二0 一 八 (ASIAD  一 八) since the start of this year, VFV General Secretary Lê Trí Trường said.

Truong made the statement at a press conference in Hà Nội on Tuesday on the upcoming VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup.

The team has been trained to enhance their teamwork instead of solely depending on a few key players, he added.

The VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup will run from August  四- 一 一 at Hà Tĩnh Gymnasium in the central province of Hà Tĩnh. It is viewed as a warm-up for the players ahead of ASIAD  一 八, which will be held in Indonesia from August  一 八 to September  二.

The tournament features eight teams, including Kazakhstan’s Altay, China’s Yunnan and the North Korean national team.

Việt Nam’s national team are in Group A with Altay, Yunnan and Japan’s Hokkaido University, while Việt Nam’s U 一 九 team are in Group B with North Korea, China’s Sichuan and Taipei National University.

This will be the second time the Việt Nam U 一 九 compete in the tournament. The team recently won the sixth place at the  二0 一 八 Asian Women’s U 一 九 Volleyball Championship.

The teams will play under a round-robin format to select the top four teams to progress to the semi-finals.

The winner will walk home with US$ 一0,000 in prize money, while runners-up will receive $ 七,000. The teams which come third and fourth will receive US$ 五,000 and $ 二,000, respectively.

The tournament is an annual event initiated by the VFV and Việt Nam Television in  二00 四. This year’s event is sponsored by Vietnamese steel giant Hoa Sen Group. — VNS
